A few years ago, keen to improve my short story writing chops, I started a site called Tales of FictionThe site is now packed with stories, influenced by a mix of genres: magic realism, fantasy, supernatural horror, mystery and YA. I’m inspired by all writers of the fantastic, in particular by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Italo Calvino, Jorge Luis Borges, Peter Beagle, J. R. R. Tolkien, Isaac Asimov, a host of nineteenth-century Gothic authors, and the fabulous ghost stories of  M. R. James.

Instead of porting across all my stories to this main site, I’ve decided instead to share a few of my own favourites from the collection on here. Watch this space!

My aim when I started the site back in 2013 was to get to 50 short stories. I’m currently inching my way towards my target (last count was #36). Admittedly, I thought I would have been there, and well on my way to one hundred by now, but the decision to undertake a research masters, and now a PhD, means that my creative writing has been sidelined somewhat. It’s my hope that one day I’ll be able to publish a longer piece, whether through an agent and publisher, or online myself. In the meantime I’ll continue to add short stories to my blog, and to perform some of these publicly when I can. What matters to me, is that I continue to work at the craft, and hopefully write stories that people can read and enjoy.

I hope you like the stories!

Thanks for reading 🙂
